Ansemix, a leader in smart power and intelligent sensing technologies, celebrates the inauguration of its expanded silicon carbide (SiC) plant in Roznov, Czech Republic. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by a number of guests headed by the Minister of Industry and Trade Section Chief Zbyněk Pokorny, the Governor of Zrin Prefecture Radim Holišand the Mayor Jiři Pavlica, as well as other key local government figures, indicating the importance of this event and semiconductor manufacturing in the Czech Republic.
Ansen Max expands SiC plant in Czech to increase SIC capacity by 16 times
Beginning in 2019, Anson & Mays added SiC polished wafer and SiC epitaxial (hereinafter referred to as "EPI") wafer production to its existing silicon polished and epitaxial wafer and chip production at Roznov. As the original site could not meet the demand, construction of a new plant began last year to further expand wafer and SiC EPI production. Over the next two years, this expansion will increase SiC capacity at the site 16-fold and create 200 jobs by the end of 2024. To date, Anson Mae has invested more than $150 million in the Roznov site and plans to invest an additional $300 million by 2023. Anson Mae was recently awarded the Institute of Foreign Investment (AFI) Award for Significant Contribution to Investment for its SiC investments in the Czech Republic.
"Together with the expansion of our SiC ingot production in Hudson, N.H., these additional SiC manufacturing capabilities enable us to provide critical supply assurance to our customers to meet the rapidly growing demand for SIC-based solutions," said Simon Keeton, Executive vice President and general manager, Power Solutions Division, Anson Power. Our overall control of the SiC manufacturing supply chain and the energy efficiency of our products in the leading markets highlight Anson's further lead in SiC."
SiC is critical to improving the energy efficiency of electric vehicles (EVs), EV charging, and energy infrastructure, and is an important enabling of decarbonization. It is worth noting that despite the expansion of production, the global silicon carbide business is in full swing, but large-scale profitability still needs time.
